A Very Thrify Christmas Swap: Reveal

I participated in a fun little bloggy adventure this Christmas. It was hosted by Lara’s Vintage and it was really fun!

Here were the rules:

1) Thrift a gift for a Blog partner (chosen by Lara)

2) Spend no more than $25 including shipping

3) Send it by the 17th

I was partnered with Megan from Simple Mum ๐Ÿ™‚ who, based in the short description I received from Lara, was looking for things for her kitchen. Well, I went thrifting and found this beast for $2…

Functional…but worn down to the bone. The chalkboard was just…done for…the corking destroyed, but in general it was sturdy and would be perfect in a kitchen, so I thought, why not make this thing my bitch and DIY it into perfection.

Step 1) Chalkboard paint

Step 2) Paint the edges

Step 3) Re-cork…I forgot to take a picture of that nightmare haha SO HARD to cut to the right size, but I did it….here’s the final product

I think it ended up pretty cute, I went back and forth on if I should paint all the wood white, but I liked it with just the edges. Megan can always add more white, distress it, whatever if she wants ๐Ÿ™‚ Since I was still under the $25 mark (I had to buy cork which is pretty cheap, already had the white paint and chalkboard paint), I found a pretty cute Chicken picture kitchen-y thing at a different thrift store and an old cookbook to throw in for good measure! Of course I forgot to take a picture of those things, but whatever….

In my description I described my Christmas decor…that’s about it. I went into this for fun, so I wasn’t expecting anything over the top, but Megan delivered in a BIG way

See? Look at that big old box! I was literally like a kid on Christmas just because of the big box haha

She found me THE CUTEST Christmas countdown Santa! Even added in some berries which totally goes with my decor.

At first, I didn’t see that all the numbers were in the box and was excited anyways…then I FOUND ALL THE NUMBERS tucked under a corner of the box and was even more blown away! Also, Megan threw in a few of her homemade spices in cute little chalkboard jars (great minds think alike haha)

Thank you Megan for the awesome loot and thank you Lara for hosting this amazing little swap.

Christmas Cards, yay!

I’ve mentioned my amazing friend Rachael before, but I need to again. She is an incredible photographer and took some really great pictures of us to use in our Christmas cards ๐Ÿ™‚ She’s awesome, if you’re ever in Florida look her up!

_MG_9091You can’t tell from the pictures, but I had a complete meltdown right before hand because the shirt I wanted to wear (a lacie but casual, peach, super cute and MUCH more forgiving shirt I bought specifically for this shoot) went missing. It was the end of the day, I felt bloated, I didn’t want a tight shirt on because I knew we’d probably have to sit down with the dog which leads to awkward shirt folds or rolls, etc. etc. etc. I freaked out, calmed down, freaked out, then put together this outfit. The pictures turned out great either way, so I’m glad I didn’t get TOO crazy over it (ok, I did go crazy, but whatever). I ended up liking the yellow. It just sucks when plans don’t work out, you know?

Without further ado….

Our Christmas card ๐Ÿ™‚ This is a picture of the card, not the actual card or file itself. For some reason it uploaded weird, the pictures are black and white (not pink lol) in person…and it isn’t fuzzy looking in person…but you get the gist…

We went the old Walgreens route, found a coupon code and end result = 40 cards from $19.

50 cents a card? Yes please! Yay! Christmas!

What did you do for you Christmas cards this year?

Deck the Halls

I’ve been decking the halls!

Here’s our teeny tiny tree!

This pathetic tree is on it’s last leg ๐Ÿ˜ฆ my husband bought it in Virginia when he was away at school for a year. He drove it down to Florida and almost left it in a parking lot, until I made him drag it to my house since I had no tree and no money to buy one. It’s been our tree for 3 years and its finally breaking down (it was only $10) It’s been a bit of a joke, but now that it’s falling apart I’m definitely going to miss it!

My little niece beast got her Christmas pictures taken! How cute is she?? The bow tie kills me! She’s almost five ๐Ÿ™‚
Here’s her newest creation…

I’ve also been working on things for the blogger swap I’m doing! Posts will be happening soon!

Thrift baby, thrift

Just in case anyone didn’t read the title right, it’s meant to be sung like the Tootsie Roll song ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had a GREAT thrift day today! I’ve been following a few new bloggers that have insanely good thrift skills so I’ve been really inspired lately.

First up…new Christmas ornament. My Christmas decor is very “woodsy” and warm, lots of forrest greens, deep reds, holly berries and golds.

Also, a little light up tree wrapped in burlap (also a staple in my Christmas decor)

Cute, right?
Next up, a new (to me) board game! We try to keep a well stocked game closet, however we didn’t have Clue! I love buying board games at thrift stores because you can find the versions you grew up on. Don’t get me started on how bad they effed up the characters on the new Candy Land box. It’s just, not right! I know this isn’t technically the original Clue box, BUT it’s the one I remember. So, therefore right in my world ๐Ÿ™‚

Now for the fun stuff! Jessica Simpson coat for Fall/Winter. Yay!

And….*drum roll* barely worn Sam Edelman sandals! $2.50! WOOT!

Grand total: $15 ๐Ÿ™‚

Thrift baby, thrift!!! Haha

Anyone else have any incredible finds lately?
