I participated in a fun little bloggy adventure this Christmas. It was hosted by Lara’s Vintage and it was really fun!
Here were the rules:
1) Thrift a gift for a Blog partner (chosen by Lara)
2) Spend no more than $25 including shipping
3) Send it by the 17th
I was partnered with Megan from Simple Mum 🙂 who, based in the short description I received from Lara, was looking for things for her kitchen. Well, I went thrifting and found this beast for $2…
Functional…but worn down to the bone. The chalkboard was just…done for…the corking destroyed, but in general it was sturdy and would be perfect in a kitchen, so I thought, why not make this thing my bitch and DIY it into perfection.
Step 2) Paint the edges
Step 3) Re-cork…I forgot to take a picture of that nightmare haha SO HARD to cut to the right size, but I did it….here’s the final product
I think it ended up pretty cute, I went back and forth on if I should paint all the wood white, but I liked it with just the edges. Megan can always add more white, distress it, whatever if she wants 🙂 Since I was still under the $25 mark (I had to buy cork which is pretty cheap, already had the white paint and chalkboard paint), I found a pretty cute Chicken picture kitchen-y thing at a different thrift store and an old cookbook to throw in for good measure! Of course I forgot to take a picture of those things, but whatever….
NOW IT’S TIME TO REVEAL WHAT I GOT!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
In my description I described my Christmas decor…that’s about it. I went into this for fun, so I wasn’t expecting anything over the top, but Megan delivered in a BIG way
See? Look at that big old box! I was literally like a kid on Christmas just because of the big box haha
She found me THE CUTEST Christmas countdown Santa! Even added in some berries which totally goes with my decor.
At first, I didn’t see that all the numbers were in the box and was excited anyways…then I FOUND ALL THE NUMBERS tucked under a corner of the box and was even more blown away! Also, Megan threw in a few of her homemade spices in cute little chalkboard jars (great minds think alike haha)
They look amazing! Can’t wait to try them all 🙂
Thank you Megan for the awesome loot and thank you Lara for hosting this amazing little swap.
My chair is done! Stain is still drying so it will be a little more cherry BUT you get the idea 🙂
Gotta love finding treasures in your neighbors trash 😉 Woot!
Why are chair cushions so fucking expensive?
Honestly, SO expensive. It’s a conspiracy!!! $25-30 for 1 cushion?!?!?!
I look on Etsy, a set of 4 for $130!
Unless it’s made of solid gold, there is no way in HELL I’m paying over $10 for a freaking cushion for asses to rest on and eventually SWEAT on as the cushions are for OUTDOOR USE.
Twerking on two new projects!
Both will be sprucing up our backyard area and both were…wait for it…FREE!!!!!!!!!
Scrounged this “junk” from neighbors garbage piles! Woot!
Awesome chair and heavy! Started painting/sanding. Think I’ll stain the wood a dark cherry.
FREE phone table that will serve as a side table for my new FREE chair. Stole this beauty from my moms garage sale pile!
Oh wait…there’s more…
I stuffed this table, chairs and glass (not pictured) into the back of my car BY MYSELF. Seriously hilarious memory. Prob looked like a psycho, but HEY! It. Was. Free.
All of the chairs are getting fresh paint, new bottoms (courtesy of father in law) and new cushions!
Will upload pics of the finished products 😉

This past weekend I helped my mom begin the LONG process of organizing and redecorating her house.
It will be long and exhausting because:
1) The house is PACKED with furniture. Literally, we have to walk sideways in some hallways and rooms thanks to my hoarding father (may he rest in peace).
2) My mom can’t help but be a bit emotional during the process. Every antique or picture or random thing has a story or argument behind it (he used to “decorate” aka attach random things to the wall like a friggin Applebee’s when we weren’t home)
3) Have I mentioned she has custody of my 4 year old mildly autistic niece? Yeah. Basically we are attempting to do all of this work while entertaining this sweet doll baby…
Wow, makes me tired just typing all that!
Anyways, here’s the result of Phase 1: Guest Room. Kicking myself for not taking a before of what the room looked like before we rearranged the furniture!
My mom wanted less depressing and less overwhelming. I think we are off to a great start!
What do you think?
